I am looking at the progress we have made with both excitement and determination, seeing how far we have come in building a sanctuary of hope for the children of Sierra Leone. While seeing the structure rise is a blessing, the reality of construction brings its own set of challenges that we must overcome to ensure this home is safe, secure, and lasting.
We are currently in a critical phase where we need to secure specific building materials to combat the rainy season. As you can see in the videos below, we are dealing with significant water penetration, and making the roof watertight is our number one priority right now.

Beyond the urgent roof repairs, we are reviewing the specific needs for the grounds, the doors, the kitchen prep areas, and the sanitary facilities. Here is a look at the current state of the project and where we are focusing our efforts:
The Grounds We have a lot of space to work with, but the land needs proper management to be safe for the children to play.
The Roof These photos show the structure where we are identifying the leaks to ensure the building is completely dry inside.
The Doors & Security As you can see in this picture, we are currently relying on temporary doors that are not secure. We urgently need proper interior and exterior doors, including bedrooms and bathroom doors, to ensure true safety and privacy.
The Kitchen You can see the concrete counters are in place. We are working on the materials needed to finish these surfaces so nutritious meals can be prepared here soon.
The Bathrooms These are the shower and toilet areas. Finishing these properly is vital for hygiene and comfort.
Why do these specific repairs matter so much? Because we are already living here. A leaky roof isn’t a future worry; it determines whether a child has a dry, warm bed to sleep in tonight. Fixing the bathrooms and securing the doors is about restoring dignity and safety to our daily lives right now. By addressing these building challenges immediately, we are ensuring that this home becomes the true fortress of safety and comfort our children deserve.
