Family & Friends,
What a joy it was to sit down with the team at Conversations of Faith with Friends and Family and share the heartbeat of Esther KaiKai Memorial Outreach! My husband, Elgin, and I had the chance to open up about this ministry—born from my mother’s legacy and fueled by God’s love—to enrich the lives of Sierra Leone’s women and children.
It all started after my mom, Esther, passed in 2010. She was a woman who, despite her own pain as an orphan, poured love into others, taking in kids and sending help home even from the U.S. When I visited Sierra Leone for her memorial in 2011, I met children she’d supported—hungry, tugging at my clothes. In that moment, God stirred my heart. I called Elgin and said, “You have 10 kids now!” Today, we’re raising 25 precious souls in Bo Town, not as an orphanage, but as a home where they’re ours.
These kids come from tough places—war-torn families, rejection, poverty. One girl, after her mom disowned her in my car, asked to take our name, Young, because she felt loved. They’re thriving now—growing food, learning responsibility, and knowing God’s grace. Elgin caught the vision too, and together we’re building a 20,000-square-foot children’s home by hand, block by block, with solar power on the way. It’s hard work, but every brick is for them.
Your support makes this possible, and we’re so grateful. Want to hear more about how we met at Delta Airlines, our faith journey, or the kids’ stories? Check out the full video below—it’s straight from our hearts!
In His Service,
Maseray Young
