July 2023 brought significant advancements in the EKMOI orphanage project, along with new challenges. We have made substantial progress on critical infrastructure, including a 10-to-12-foot perimeter wall for enhanced security. Plans are underway to install electric fencing and heavy gates to safeguard the children and staff further.
The building now features reinforced guards for the windows and an outdoor kitchen for daily meal preparation. An outdoor bathroom with two toilets and two showers is also in the works, ensuring convenience for the children while they play.
To improve sustainability, we’ve allocated space for farm animals such as goats, sheep, and chickens, with plans to hatch our own eggs. Approximately 70% of the grounds will be paved, while the remaining area will include green spaces for the children to enjoy.
Inside the orphanage, we’ve begun plastering walls and preparing for the installation of sheetrock and tiles. However, the project still requires over 4,000 bags of cement, electrical cables, tiles, and a backup generator. Solar panels and batteries are essential for powering the 18,000-square-foot building, as the area remains off-grid.
Despite these challenges, the children’s enthusiasm shines through—they actively participate in tasks like sand bailing and water fetching, fostering a strong sense of community and responsibility.
Our immediate financial goal is to raise $250,000 to complete the project and provide for the children’s daily needs, including private school tuition and transportation. We’re deeply grateful for your continued support, which has brought us this far. Together, we can finish this journey and create a safe, loving environment where the children can thrive.
