Achievements in Education and Security
During my time in Sierra Leone, we made significant strides in education. I’m pleased to report that all tuition fees for the children, from last school year to the end of this school year, have been paid. However, three of our students are facing delays in entering college due to exam result issues. We are using this time as a gap year, focusing on skill development to keep them engaged and productive.
Security has also been a priority. We’ve partnered with a professional security agency in Sierra Leone to ensure the safety of our children. This partnership brings accountability and peace of mind, knowing that our children are protected by vetted professionals.
Sustainability and Infrastructure Improvements
Since moving into the orphanage in August 2024, we’ve faced challenges with power and water. I’m excited to share that we’ve begun implementing solar solutions, providing electricity for essential needs like lighting and refrigeration. Additionally, we’ve addressed water contamination issues, ensuring clean drinking water for the children.
Our efforts to create a nurturing environment include hiring a matron with 33 years of experience. She, along with her assistant, is dedicated to raising our children with love and care, instilling values that align with EKMOI’s mission.
Educational Challenges and Solutions
Many of our children come from schools where education was not prioritized. To address this, we’ve introduced the “Hooked on Phonics” program to build a strong foundation in reading. This initiative is crucial for their academic growth and future success.
Transportation and Future Needs
Transportation remains a challenge. Our current arrangement often results in late arrivals to school, affecting the children’s schedules and study time. We are actively seeking a solution, including the purchase of a bus to ensure timely transportation.
Looking ahead, we have several needs, including fixing our roof, improving plumbing, and completing various infrastructure projects. We are also planning a packing party on February 15th to prepare shipments for the children, including solar solutions.
Join Us in Our Mission
Your support is invaluable as we strive to provide a brighter future for the children in Sierra Leone. Thank you for your continued partnership and prayers. Together, we can make a significant impact in the lives of these children. God bless you all!
