The EKMOI Garden: Growing Fresh Food and Healthier Futures

At EKMOI, our mission extends beyond providing shelter and education—we’re also cultivating healthy living through our vibrant garden. The Esther KaiKai Memorial Outreach Garden is a thriving space where fresh fruits and vegetables grow, and children learn the value of hard work, responsibility, and sustainability.

Led by one of our sons, Morrison, the garden is a source of fresh, nutritious food. It features a wide variety of plants, including cashew trees, lettuce, coconut trees, plantains, carrots, and avocado. Other crops include African hot peppers, garden eggs, cucumbers, okra, onions, garlic, and even sugarcane.

The garden also reflects the fertile richness of the land, which makes it ideal for growing almost anything. Our children actively participate in planting, harvesting, and maintaining the crops. For instance, lettuce and okra are almost ready for harvest, while cucumbers and carrots will be ready within the next month or so.

This garden is more than just a food source; it’s a place of learning and growth. The children gain practical farming knowledge and develop an appreciation for the land that sustains them. Every plant is a reminder of God’s provision and the importance of stewardship.

Thanks to the children’s efforts and the hard work in the EKMOI garden, we now enjoy fresh and healthy salads like this one. Each plate is a reminder of how care and dedication to the land provide us with the best to nourish and grow strong.

Also we’re incredibly thankful to our partners and supporters for making this initiative possible. Your contributions allow us to grow not only food but also brighter futures for the children of EKMOI.
