EKMOI October 2023 Update

October 2023 has been a significant month for the EKMOI orphanage as we push closer to completing our mission of providing a safe and nurturing home for up to 200 children. This month marks 13 years since my mother’s passing, and her legacy continues to inspire our work, driving us to create a brighter future for the children we serve.

One of our key milestones this month is the construction of an outdoor bathroom, complete with three toilets, two showers, and three sinks. This facility will provide much-needed convenience for the children as they play and learn outdoors. Additionally, we’ve made progress on a secure animal enclosure to protect our farm animals, including goats, sheep, chickens, and ducks. This space not only enhances our sustainability efforts but also teaches the children valuable agricultural skills.

To further ensure the safety of the children, we’ve constructed a 10-to-12-foot perimeter wall around the property. The next step includes installing gates and adding an electric fence for enhanced security.

Inside the orphanage, we’ve plastered the walls and are preparing for the arrival of new windows. However, critical needs remain, including solar panels, batteries, and a backup generator to provide electricity, as the orphanage operates off the grid. Additional funding is also needed for construction materials such as cement, stones, and tiles, as well as for a bus to transport the children to school efficiently.

Our children are not just passive beneficiaries; they are actively involved in the project, assisting with tasks like block beating, sand bailing, and water fetching. Their hard work and enthusiasm reflect the strong sense of community and ownership we strive to foster.

While much progress has been made, we still have a way to go. With your continued support, we are confident that we can complete this project by December 8. Together, we can provide these children with the safe, loving environment they deserve.

Thank you for standing with us on this journey and for being part of the EKMOI family.
